“Already Registered” Lock & When It Clears

Updated 3 months ago 1 min read

Who this is for: You see “already registered” when trying to start a new application.
Summary: This lock appears if you have an active registration, an in-process extension, or a recently expired window still within the 4-week post-period. It clears when the active item resolves or when the 4-week post-expiry mark is reached.

Decision guide

  • Active registration (current/extended window): you can’t start a new app—either test, extend (if eligible), or cancel/let it expire.

  • Extension case open: wait for invoice → pay → permit updates.

  • Expired window: lock clears when ECFMG hits the ~4-week mark after the end date, then you can reapply.

The “already registered” message is normal if your last window just ended. It usually clears ~4 weeks after that end date—then you can submit a fresh application.
