Name Change & Identity Docs (Passport vs. Permit name)

Updated 1 month ago 1 min read

Summary: Your Scheduling Permit name must exactly match the name on the ID you bring to Prometric (minor capitalization/middle-name format differences are the only acceptable variations). If you change your name while registered, ECFMG issues a revised permit—but they must receive/process the change ≥7 business days before your appointment.

Steps

  1. Check your passport biographic page. Use that spelling/sequence as your name of record in MyIntealth.

  2. If you need a change (marriage/divorce/legal update), submit the name change to ECFMG via MyIntealth with supporting docs; wait for the revised permit email. Plan ≥7 business days before test day.

  3. After approval, download the revised permit and verify it matches your passport. Bring both to Prometric.

Edge cases

  • Middle name vs. initial or capitalization differences are OK; anything else isn’t. If in doubt, change it in advance.

  • If the change isn’t processed 7 business days before test day, you cannot test; reschedule within your window.

Your permit name has to exactly match your passport (small middle-name/caps differences are fine). If you changed your name, submit it in MyIntealth and wait for the revised permit—ECFMG must process this ≥7 business days before your appointment or you’ll need to reschedule.
