Prometric Rescheduling & No-Show Rules (fees, deadlines, what resets eligibility)

Updated 1 month ago 1 min read

Summary: Reschedule directly with Prometric using your permit details. Fees depend on how close you are to your test date; there’s no fee ≥46 days out, small fees 31–45 days, and higher fees closer in. Your new date must still be within your eligibility period. A no-show forfeits the appointment and fees; you then need a new appointment within your window (or extend/reapply).

Steps

  1. Use the Prometric USMLE portal to change/cancel; have your permit and Prometric confirmation number ready.

  2. Pick a new date inside your eligibility (or extend if eligible, before it ends).

  3. Pay the displayed change fee (tiered by timing and region).

Edge cases

  • Need to change your name before testing? Do it with ECFMG first and get a revised permit, then reschedule if necessary.

  • Very last-minute changes can be unavailable; if you miss the appointment, it counts as no-show under Prometric/USMLE policies.

Reschedule on Prometric with your permit info. Fees go up the closer you are to test day, and you must stay within your eligibility period. Missed appointments count as no-shows—you’ll need to book again (or extend/reapply if the window is ending).
